1959 Earth Pig: Last Year of the Fifties
The 1959 Pig year began on Feb 8, 1959 and ended on Jan 27, 1960, just before the 1960 Metal Rat year. So January 1960 births up to that day are still Earth Pigs.
Its year name 己亥 shares 平地木, “wood of the open plain,” with 1958. 1959 Pigs turn 67 in 2026, and their next own sign year comes in 2031, at 72.
Born in January or Early February 1959?
The Chinese year does not start on January 1. Lunar New Year 1959 was on Sunday, Feb 8, 1959, so births before that date belong to the year before.
| Born | Sign | Year name |
|---|---|---|
| Jan 1 to Feb 7, 1959 | Earth Dog | 戊戌 |
| Feb 8, 1959 to Jan 27, 1960 | Earth Pig | 己亥 |
So someone born on Feb 7, 1959 is an Earth Dog, and someone born on Feb 8, 1959 is an Earth Pig. Dates are in China Standard Time.
What Is an Earth Pig?
An Earth Pig combines the Pig with the element of the birth year. 1959 ends in 9, which gives Earth. The element repeats every 60 years, so other Earth Pig years include 2019.
