2026, the Fire Horse Year
2026 is a 丙午 year, Fire Horse, which comes once every 60 years; the last was 1966. Lunar New Year fell on Feb 17, 2026, so a baby born from January 1 to Feb 16, 2026 is a Wood Snake, and the Fire Horse year runs until Feb 5, 2027.
In Japan an old superstition about Fire Horse years led to a sharp drop in births in 1966. In Chinese tradition, the Horse is more often linked with energy, speed and independence.
Born in January or Early February 2026?
The Chinese year does not start on January 1. Lunar New Year 2026 was on Tuesday, Feb 17, 2026, so births before that date belong to the year before.
| Born | Sign | Year name |
|---|---|---|
| Jan 1 to Feb 16, 2026 | Wood Snake | 乙巳 |
| Feb 17, 2026 to Feb 5, 2027 | Fire Horse | 丙午 |
So someone born on Feb 16, 2026 is a Wood Snake, and someone born on Feb 17, 2026 is a Fire Horse. Dates are in China Standard Time.
What Is a Fire Horse?
