A 1976 Dragon turns 50 in 2026. The United States marked its bicentennial on July 4, 1976, in the middle of this Dragon year, so the two anniversaries line up.
The 1976 year began on Jan 31, 1976 and lasted until Feb 17, 1977, which puts early-February 1977 birthdays in the Dragon year too. Births before Jan 31, 1976 are Wood Rabbits.

The Chinese year does not start on January 1. Lunar New Year 1976 was on Saturday, Jan 31, 1976, so births before that date belong to the year before.
